about the work
The work deals with digital representation, image flood and a fragile sense of self.
Whilst navigating various timelines, which accumulate from a flood of information and images, the constantly updated mass of impressions is able to quickly replace deleted images. The arrangement of glass plates is supposed to imitate these blank spaces, while also engaging with one another. The 3d prints show screenshots taken on a smartphone, numerous apps being used at the same time: We see
messaging apps, social media interfaces and dating apps all being open at once.
The aim is to show the complexity of the applications and timelines that digital spheres offer. If needs for closeness and social contact can be satisfied via a digital medium, it is difficult to establish a sense
of togetherness in other ways and to extrude it from a digital space. The question of an established sense of self are complex and fragile anyway, and they’ve become even more difficult due to the infinite
possibilities the digital age is offering us. I want to empathize the blank spaces within digital spheres and use them as a tool to further emancipate myself from definitions and identities that I do not want to
associate with, but are put on me nonetheless.
